Description
This insert is pressed from single-sheet 18/8 stainless steel, perforated across the floor and lower sidewall with precision-punched three-millimeter holes. It sits on an engineered stepped shoulder that suspends the basin roughly two inches above the floor of standard four-quart saucepans. This suspension keeps delicate vegetables, dumplings, or shellfish clear of boiling liquid while steam circulates freely through the perimeter and base. Dual loop handles are spot-welded to the outer rim, positioned flush enough to allow a saucepan lid to seat fully without releasing moisture around the edge.
The brushed interior resists surface scratching from stainless tongs, though persistent mineral deposits from hard water will require an occasional soak in diluted white vinegar. It functions best with direct steam over medium heat; it is not suited for dry roasting, baking, or high-viscosity stocks, as thick liquids do not drain cleanly through the hole pattern. Hand washing with hot water and mild detergent prevents water spots, but the heavy-gauge steel is entirely dishwasher safe. Expect minor heat tinting over time if exposed to an empty, hot vessel.
