PL Goods Co. sells the things a kitchen actually uses. Not the gadget that gets opened once and lives in a
drawer, and not the display piece that never sees heat — the skillet, the board, the set of storage that
finally makes a shelf make sense.
We started the way most of these things start, which is with frustration. A pan that warped the third time
it met a hot oven. A storage set whose lids stopped sealing inside a year. Cutting boards that split along
a glue line because they were assembled to a price. None of it was expensive, and all of it had to be
bought twice.
So the whole company is built around one question we ask before anything goes on the site: would we buy
this again in five years, or are we selling somebody a thing they will replace? That question rules out a
lot. It rules out most nonstick. It rules out anything where the finish is doing the work the material
should be doing. It rules out a surprising number of very handsome objects.
What is left is a fairly plain catalog, and we are comfortable with that. Cast iron that arrives already
seasoned and gets better rather than worse. Tri-ply pans with a bonded base that runs edge to edge instead
of a disc stuck to the bottom. End-grain boards, because the blade parts the fibers instead of cutting
across them and the board closes over its own marks. Borosilicate storage with gaskets that still seal
after a year of dishwashers. Linen that is absorbent from the first wash rather than the fifth.
We are an online store and only an online store. There is no showroom to visit. Everything ships from our
United States distribution partner, domestically only, and we pack to the standard the item deserves —
glass and stoneware double-boxed, cast iron braced so it cannot move, knives sheathed before they go
anywhere near a carton.
We are a small operation. That has consequences in both directions. It means we cannot compete with a
warehouse on the breadth of what we list, and we do not try. It also means the person who answers your
email is the person who chose the product, and if something arrives wrong we would rather replace it than
argue about it. Our returns policy is deliberately boring: thirty days, unused, original packaging, and we
do not make you explain yourself.
If there is something you think belongs in this catalog, tell us. A fair amount of what we carry got here
because a customer asked for it and we could not find a good reason to say no.
